Amanda Brugel
(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in that part of the island of Montreal that is known as"the West Island. The West Island has a lot of different communities. People who have never known about it may think it is a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time was not long in the city. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. The first goal she had was to become an actress, However, following a dramatic increase in size, her friends could no longer dance with her. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. The moment I outgrew my male counterpart and stopped dancing, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to acting, and in Brugel's case it was the nudge of a high school drama teacher who encouraged her to go in that direction. The teacher suggested she try to find a role in the school's annual show. After a few auditions her options, she was eventually the lead actress in Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2000. Over the past 20 years since, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions across small and big screens drawing the most attention when she landed the part of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in Season 1 and only appeared at times.
